It feels like old home week here in Atlanta, where three concurrently running textile trade shows kicked off ttoday. Before I left the hotel this morning, I bumped into two industry colleagues I hadn’t seen in years. And it took nearly 30 minutes to get from the front door of the Georgia World Congress Center to the exhibit hall, thanks to my stopping to chat with several other longtime friends.
Which is exactly why I love this industry so much – the people. The industry is exciting in and of itself, with new technologies and innovations emerging every day – but it’s the people who make it tick and have given it new life after years of turmoil. And that excitement is now effervescing throughout these large halls. The hum of hundreds of conversations taking place at once – all generally about this company or that product or this show – is music to my ears.
The buzz is back
Ever felt like you know where you’re supposed to be? After a four-year hiatus from the industry, I feel that way now. I know I belong here among you, visiting your booths, catching up, learning what’s new and sharing your good news.
I imagine there is more positive buzz at these shows – TechTextil North America, Texprocess Americas and JEC Americas – than there has been in years. The industry certainly is alive and kicking, as evidenced by the record number of exhibitors and the swarms of visitors on hand. Already, a gentleman from Italy told me today, “it’s so good to see the U.S. textile industry coming back.”
So, if you’re here, look for me. I’d love to see and publicize what you’re showing. Or stop by booth #1619 to pick up my card and call me, or just leave a note. I’ll come see you.
It’s good to be back.
