The Southern Textile Association’s (STA’s) 108th Annual Meeting and the Fiber Buyers Joint Meeting will take place next week, June 19-21, at the Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort & Spa at Grande Dunes, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The first general session, under the theme “Manufacturing … Uniquely American,” speakers include:

Joe Nicosia, senior head, Cotton and Merchandising Platforms, Allenberg Cotton/Louis Dreyfus, who will cover “U.S. World Cotton Supply/Demand;”

John Bassett, chairman, Vaughan-Bassett Furniture, who will discuss “Making It In America;” and
-
Dr. Henry Hobbs, region manager, South, Georgia Tech, who will go over “Bridging the Generational Divide.”
Under the theme “2016: Unconventional Campaigns, Unconventional Conventions,” the second general session will welcome these presenters:

Auggie Tantillo, president & CEO, National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO), who will speak on trade agreements and the industry’s rebranding campaign, American Textiles: We Make Amazing;”

Mike Collins, author and president of The Perfect Workday Company, Inc., who will present “Industry Challenges Past, Present and Future;” and
-
Rob Chapman III, chairman, CEO and treasurer, Inman Mills.
Todd Wemyss, plant manager at Glen Raven Custom Fabrics, LLC, Norlina, N.C., has served as president of the STA during the past year. He is expected to be succeeded as president by First Vice President Mike Kingsmore, president & COO of Palmetto Finishing, Easley, S.C.
Award recipients
During the STA’s annual business session, three awards will be presented:

The Chapman Award – Jim Chesnutt, chairman & CEO of National Spinning Co., Washington, N.C., will become only the 11th receipient of STA’s highest honor. The Chapman Award was established by the STA in 1984 in honor of three members of the Chapman Family of Inman Mills and Inman, S.C., who served as presidents of the STA – James A. Chapman, Sr. in 1923, James A. Chapman, Jr. in 1955 and Joseph W. Chapman in 1972. The award was established to recognize individuals for exemplary and outstanding service and leadership to the textile industry.

The Steve Epps Lifetime Service Award – to be presented to Tommy Ariail. The Steve Epps Lifetime Service Award honors STA members who have been a member of STA for 20 years or more, are retiring or have retired, served the association in many capacities of leadership and service during their years of membership.

The David Clark Award – to go to Mitch Hensley of National Spinning Co. The David Clark Award, named for the founder of STA, honors past presidents of the association who continue to contribute Distinguished Leadership and Service to the association - and through it to the textile industry - for ten or more years following their service as president.
Beyond business, the event will offer a number of activities and networking opportunities with more than 200 industry mill and supplier representatives.
The Joint Fiber Buyers meeting is organized by the NCTO, the STA, the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance (SCMA) and the Georgia Association of Manufacturers (GAM).
