19 – the number of conferences, courses and expositions INDA, Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry will host this year. In case you haven't noticed, nonwovens is a booming sector of our industry.

7 – the number of meetings the Southern Textile Association will hold this year, including Wednesday’s 2016 kickoff event, the Winter Technical Seminar.

3 – the average number of emails I receive daily from firms wanting me to buy a database list (i.e. healthcare, insurance, finance, electronics, retail, consulting, construction, engineering, marketing/advertising, et al).

2 – the over/under on how many times President Obama will say “Trans-Pacific Partnership” in tonight’s farewell State of the Union address.

1 – the number of days until the numbers match my ticket to paradise.

If I do win, I plan to keep my job and continue to provide you the textile/apparel industry news you seek. Either way, as a member of this esteemed industry, I’m already a winner. You're No. 1 in my eyes.

She's at the fruit stand every day, buys bananas by the bunch.
She looked at all the price tags. That's why she keeps her hunch.

Now we know that grandma plays the numbers.

This week’s record-setting Powerball lottery reminded me of R&B wailer Wynonie Harris’ 1949 song, “Grandma Plays the Numbers.” Like many of you, I’ve tried to figure the tax hit I’ll take when I win the unfathomable $1.4 billion jackpot Wednesday night. The number boggles the mind, so I've decided it’s not worth buying tickets. Well, maybe one. Or two. Three max. But that’s it, feds, family and friends. I’m in, but first I need to figure out which numbers to play.

Maybe if I run through 2016 by the numbers as it relates to the textile industry and related matters, I’ll find my hunch:

55,410 – the number of page views eTextileCommunications received last year. Thanks, ya’ll.

9,578 – the number of Twitter followers of the REPREVE® brand – way to connect, Unifi.

100 – the number of years knitting machine manufacturer Vanguard Pai Lung of Monroe, N.C., has been in business. Happy anniversary!

90 – the number of days before the National Council of Textile Organization’s Annual Meeting, which is sure to be spirited and illuminating, with the Trans-Pacific Partnership having been negotiated and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership looming.

40 – the number of points Clemson put up in the NCAA football championship – which still weren’t enough to bring home the prize. (OK, that’s not textile-related, but Clemson does have a long history of educating many fine textile folks, most of whom were all over Facebook and Twitter from Arizona Monday night.)

31 – the total number of local sections and student chapters of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists – a truly active and engaged organization.
