COLUMBIA, S.C. – China-based Labon, a technical fiber and textile manufacturer, is establishing its first operations in South Carolina, the S.C. Dept. of Commerce announced.
The Orangeburg County project is expected to bring $3.1 million in capital investment and lead to the creation of 23 new jobs.
"Labon is excited to launch our first operations in the United States in Orangeburg County,” said Labon General Manager Hongxin Chen. “Between the skilled workforce and friendly business climate, this decision was easy for us. This development will allow us not only to accommodate our continued business growth, but better serve our customers, as well."
Established in Shanghai in 2005, Labon specializes in the research, development and manufacturing of technical fibers and textiles for use across a variety of applications, including sealing, friction, hand protection and flame-retardant products.
To launch its first operations in the U.S., Labon has purchased a 15,700-square-foot facility, which will utilize raw materials to produce fibers. Located at 122 Industrial Boulevard in Orangeburg, S.C., the company's new facility is projected to be operational by January.
"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Labon to the South Carolina family,” said S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley. “It's special any time a company decides to invest in one of our rural counties because it drastically improves the lives of those in the area. We thank Labon and its leadership for the commitment this investment represents to our state and our people, and look forward to seeing the impact it will have on the Orangeburg community."
