PHENIX CITY, Ala. – Johnston Textiles, a vertical manufacturer of textiles for the contract, hospitality, technical and industrial markets, may be closing its doors in 2015 unless it can find an investor or is bought out, according to reports.

The company notified its 140 employees that a closure could be coming, but it is working on a deal that could save the company, news outlets reported.

Johnston, which textiles weaves, dyes and finishes textiles, consolidated its operations here a few years ago and closed two other Alabama plants.

“We’re working on a going concern sale,” Baker Smith, the company’s chief operating officer, told The Ledger-Enquirer of Columbus, Ga. “We’ve got a highly motivated buyer. Don’t know whether they’re going to purchase it or not. They may not. But we felt an obligation to let the employees know the status, and the way you do that is in the form of a (federal) WARN notice.”
