NEW YORK – Milliken was honored with two Best of Year Awards for 2014 presented by Interior Design magazine.

The Altered Form collection was named Best of Year for the Flooring: Carpet/Broadloom category. Inis Mór, a modular carpet collection, won for New Low Environmental Impact Solution – a new category for the Best of Year Awards celebrating sustainable design.

“Best of Year Awards are incredibly meaningful as they represent the opinions of architects and designers in the field every day,” said Stacy Walker, global director of customer experience for the Milliken floor covering division. “At Milliken, we believe that good design, sustainable products and environmentally responsible manufacturing are imperative to architecture and design – and it matters to our clients, partners and industry as a whole.”

Notably, architects and designers vote on category finalists, and Cindy Allen, editor and chief of Interior Design, along with a jury of industry members select winners. This year, the 9th annual Interior Design Best of Year Awards received record-breaking participation with more than 2,000 submissions.

Altered Form – Best of Year winner for Flooring: Carpet/Broadloom

Inspired by the first law of thermodynamics, Altered Form takes an inquisitive view of the earth’s natural resources as it transitions from one form to another – and through that transition, creates inspiring pattern formations.

Two perspectives, micro and macro, unveil striking patterns that are inherently abstract, with a balance of scale and relief. The abstraction highlights the beauty of a viewer’s unique perspective, as their interpretation enhances the intrigue of the designs and discoveries within each pattern.

Inis Mór, a carbon-neutral floor covering, draws upon the influence of a traditional looped stitch. Reflected in both pattern and construction, the all loop textile delivers incredible resilience and durability. The collection also contributes to green building certifications and is manufactured by Milliken, a third-party certified carbon-negative family of companies by the respected Leonardo Academy.

The collection was constructed with various sustainable attributes taken into consideration, including:

  • Aquafil Econyl® Solution-Dyed Nylon construction, the world’s first and only 100 percent sustainable polymer

  • Built-in PVC-free cushion backing, which extends the first life of the carpet by up to 50 percent

  • Total Recycled Content of 44 percent

  • Available with TractionBack® – a less costly, environmentally superior method for installing modular carpet, which eliminates the need for additional tools and uses less materials and energy.
