McCrary is the president and CEO of William Barnet & Son, LLC, a synthetic fiber/yarn/polymer firm with plants and/or offices in the Americas, Europe and Asia. He has served in this position since 2001, and has been with the company since 1970 in a variety of responsibilities.

 

McCrary has served in a leadership capacity for a variety of boards during his career that include roles as chairman of the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance, chairman of the American Fiber Manufacturers Association (AFMA), and, beginning in early 2017, chairman of the National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO). He is also a member of the Palmetto Business Forum.

 

Recently, he has spent more time focusing on and supporting various projects in the Greenville community that are currently under construction, such as the McCrary Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit at the Greenville Hospital System and the Cancer Survivors Park.

 

Born in Anderson, S.C., McCrary graduated from the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tenn., in 1964, and from Duke University with a BSME in 1968. He has two sons and four grandchildren. Both sons are employed at the company.

 

Jay Lucas

 

Lucas received his law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1987. He graduated third in his class and was the managing editor of the South Carolina Law Review. He served as the Darlington County attorney and a City Judge for the City of Hartsville before becoming a partner with Lucas, Warr and White in 1994.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance announced that Bill McCrary of William Barnet & Son and S.C. House Jay Lucas are the 2016 recipients of the Roger Milliken Defender of Manufacturing Award.

 

The recipients will be honored during the awards dinner on Thursday, December 8 at the Marriott in Spartanburg, S.C.

 

Established in 2006, the Defender of Manufacturing Award recognizes individuals in the public and private sectors who have worked to advance the manufacturing industry in South Carolina. In 2012, the SCMA Board of Directors voted to rename the award to honor Roger Milliken, who died in 2010. The Defender of Manufacturing Award is the most prestigious honor from the SCMA.

 

Registration is open for the Roger Milliken Defender of Manufacturing Award dinner. The individual registration fee is $125 for members and $165 for non-member manufacturers. Corporate tables are available for $800 for SCMA members. Companies that are not manufacturers must sponsor to attend.

William "Bill" McCrary Jr.

In 1998, Lucas was elected to serve District 65 in the South Carolina House of Representatives, which is comprised of Darlington, Kershaw, Lancaster and Chesterfield counties. In 2010, his colleagues elected him Speaker Pro Tempore, and he was elected Speaker of the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2014.

 

Throughout his career in public service, Lucas has earned several prestigious awards. Earlier this year, he received the Wilkins Award for Excellence in Legislative Leadership from the Riley Institute and the Jimmy Newsom Signature Award for his contributions to public education in Darlington County.

 

He has also been recognized by the Mental Health Association; South Carolina Chamber of Commerce; South Carolina Recreation, Parks, and Tourism; South Carolina Solicitors Association; South Carolina Farm Bureau; South Carolina State Firefighter's Association; and the Institute for Child Success.
