BELMONT, N.C. – The Textile Technology Center at Gaston College has scheduled courses on USTER yarn testing and open-end spinning in the coming weeks.
Three new USTER training courses, presented by Raul Thomas of USTER Technologies, are on the docket:
1) Evenness Interpretation
October 24-25, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Explains the purpose and basic aspects of evenness interpretation, including CV, imperfections, diagram and spectrogram charts. USTER® STATISTICS 2013 with respect to evenness testing will also be covered.

2) Spectrogram Diagnostics
October 31, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Covers how to manually calculate machine gear plans to determine which components of the machine are responsible for the periodic defects shown on the spectrogram. Participants should bring machine gear plans from their plants with the sizes for all change gears or pulleys for workshop exercises. Class will cover manual calculations only.

Basic knowledge of textile machinery concepts is strongly recommended.
3) USTER Knowledge Base Software
Nov. 1, 2017, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
For customers that have optional USTER Knowledge Base Software, which will automatically identify those machine components that are responsible for the peaks on the spectrogram. Class will provide hands on training on how to set up and use the Knowledge Base Software. Participants should bring information about their machinery for the training.

Classes are FREE (to all N,C, textile industry personnel) and include lecture and manuals. Lunch will be available daily for a $10 fee. Fee for personnel outside N.C.: $185 per person for Evenness and Spectrogram classes (includes lecture, manuals and lunch).
Calculators are required for each class.

Open-end spinning
Part of the Manufacturing Excellence Series, a two-day seminar focused exlusively on open-end spinning is scheduled for Nov. 7-8.
Lenny Furlough, president of BL Consulting and a textile processing consultant, will lead a two-day seminar.
This workshop will educate attendees and provide information as to the effect of key fiber properties, processing parameters and manufacturing procedures on optimizing yarn quality and high productivity.

Day 2 (Nov. 8), 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Open End Spinning Optimization
Persons who have attended a previous drawing/silver prep class or OE class may attend Day 2 only if desired.
Classes are FREE (to all N,C, textile industry personnel) and include lecture and manuals. Lunch will be available daily for a $10 fee. Fee for personnel outside N.C.: $185 per person for the two days or $125 for one day (includes lecture, manuals and lunch).
