GREENVILLE, S.C. – Sage Automotive Interiors has acquired the automotive manufacturing assets of Italy-based Apollo S.p.A. with the goal of expanding capacity and capability for automotive interior products to the European market.
Based in Florence, Italy, and Bucharest, Romania, Apollo is ideally suited to supply automotive fabrics and sewn covers in Central and Eastern Europe. Specifics of the transaction were not disclosed.
“Europe remains a key growth area for Sage Automotive Interiors,” said Dirk Pieper, CEO of Sage Automotive Interiors. “In addition, the technology and capabilities that will now be part of Sage Automotive Interiors will strengthen our ability to serve customers from our current locations in Europe and the rest of the world.”
Sage and Apollo have a long history of working closely together in Europe. Apollo was founded in 1969 as a producer of upholstery fabrics and velvets and entered the automotive market in 1986. In 2005, Apollo was the first European automotive textile company to have products awarded with Eco-Label certification. Apollo’s location in Florence, Italy means it is centered in one of the design capitals of the world.
Manufacturing will continue with woven and knitted products for automotive OEMs. The facilities will be positioned for continued growth in capacity and employment for production of automotive textiles.
Sage Automotive Interiors is one of the world’s leading providers of soft automotive interior surfaces – seating, door panel surfaces and headliners – to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Global offices and manufacturing locations include the U.S., Japan, China, Brazil, Korea, Mexico and Europe.
Sage enjoys core strengths in consumer research, sustainability and innovative problem-solving for the OEM. Sage’s vision is to be the market leader in design, engineering and technical capability supported by world-class manufacturing.
