Tukatech founder Ram Sareen (L) and Los Angeles Apparel founder Dov Charney

Posted September 21, 2017

LOS ANGELES –  Dov Charney continues his adventure in Los Angeles, introducing Tukatech’s new technologies and renewing his commitment to produce apparel locally with his new company, Los Angeles Apparel.

In 2016, Charney’s second wind came to life when he introduced Los Angeles Apparel to wholesalers in the fashion world. While ensuring his commitment to quality apparel and providing a living wage to local workers, he continues his quest in designing and developing trendy clothing with a business model unlike other apparel companies.

By creating so-called “chaos,” Los Angeles Apparel continues to challenge the norm in all parts of the process and raises the bar with quicker manufacturing turnaround, less material waste, using textiles and yarns all made in the USA, and all their garment pattern making, grading and cut and sew are done under one roof.

“I know Tukatech, they helped me set up a state-of-the-art design and production systems with Tukacad, Tuka 3D for virtual samples, automatic fabric spreaders, automatic cutters for production, Smartmark that saves me time and fabric, even a laser cutter for my development,” said Charney, who previously founded American Apparel. “Without these affordable systems, making in L.A. will be just a dream. Thank you, Tukatech, for being with me again.”

“While designing the game plan for the new operation, Dov and I sat down and worked a plan to automate every possible step,” said Ram Sareen, CEO and founder of Tukatech. “I love his energy and his passion, adding his knowledge of yarns to fabrics to products to fit is absolutely a unique formula for success. Two disruptive companies working together again to cause chaos and shake up the market seems so much more charming the second time around.”

Los Angeles Apparel is a basics apparel manufacturer and distributor founded by Charney, a long-standing leader in American garment manufacturing. It produces T-shirts, sweatshirts, cotton bodysuits and swimwear and distributes these products to screen printers, apparel decorators and apparel companies.

The factory and headquarters are located in South Central, Los Angeles, where they house state-of-the-art patternmaking, marking, grading and cutting facilities under one roof. LA Apparel employs more than 350 people, most of whom have worked with Charney for over a decade. Current capacity is 140,000 units per week and by mid-2018 project to double that with a staff of more than 1000.
