GREENVILLE, S.C. – Andreas Oppermann, president of Oppermann GmbH, a global manufacturer of textile webbing products, announced his intent to acquire the assets of Southern Weaving Company, located here.
Both companies said they expect to finalize the transaction this week. In the near term, Oppermann said it plans to continue operating the Southern Weaving facilities located in here and in nearby Anderson, S.C.
Oppermann GmbH will continue to service webbing markets from its existing production facility in Piedmont, S.C., while undergoing a plant expansion capable of merging Greenville production within the next year. Southern Weaving’s current Anderson, S.C., facility is planned to remain in operation in support of existing markets, customers and products.
A fifth-generation, family-owned business founded in 1848, Oppermann is headquartered in Einbeck, Germany, where it also maintains a production facility. The company also operates plants in the United Kingdom, China and Slovakia, as well as the Piedmont, S.C. facility (Oppermann Webbing, Inc.). Its products are used over a wide spectrum of applications in many international market segments, including industrial, transportation, construction and aviation.
According to Mr. Oppermann, the addition of Southern Weaving employees and processes adds to the Oppermann tradition of providing industry-leading products, reliable deliveries and continuous technical innovation.
“We are excited to build upon the legacy Southern Weaving has created since its inception almost a century ago,” he said. “We recognize the tremendous talent base that Southern Weaving has cultivated and are excited to partner with the employees to build upon those success.”
Oppermann said he expects the transition to be as seamless as possible for Southern Weaving employees, as well as suppliers and customers of both companies. Upon final closing of the acquisition, management teams from both companies will complete a comprehensive integration plan.
“I would like to thank all our employees for their leadership, loyalty and years of service with the company,” said Ron Mohling, CEO of Southern Weaving. “Each and every employee that has been part of our organization over the decades is responsible for the growth, success and the rich tradition that the Southern Weaving brand holds within our markets. We are extremely grateful for their efforts and will work to ensure the transition is a smooth one. We’re equally excited for the next chapter to begin in the longstanding legacy of both organizations. On behalf of myself and other members of the senior management team, we appreciate the support from all involved.”
Questions about the acquisition should be directed to Roland Hossli, general manager, Oppermann Webbing, Inc.
