CLEMSON, S.C. – E. Smyth McKissick III of Greenville, S.C., a 1979 Clemson University graduate and CEO of Alice Manufacturing, Easley, S.C., was unanimously elected chairman of the Clemson University Board of Trustees during its summer meeting here.

 

McKissick has served as a successor trustee since 1998.

 

“I am humbled by and appreciative of the support and confidence placed in me by my fellow trustees,” McKissick said. “It is my joy to serve with great leaders and dedicated administrators, faculty, staff and students who are all committed to the betterment of our university. I look forward to this opportunity.”

 

McKissick has played many roles at Clemson. He currently chairs “The Will To Lead” capital campaign, served as a director of the Clemson University Foundation and chaired the presidential search committee that recruited President James Clements to the university. He is a member of IPTAY, the university’s athletic fundraising arm, and is a major donor to both athletics and academics.

 

He is the recipient of the Clemson Medallion, the university’s highest public honor, and the Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award. Both awards honor long and sustained service to the university as well as commitments to professional and public service.

 

McKissick is past chairman of the National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO) and the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance (SCMA).

 

An active member of Christ Episcopal Church, McKissick has served on the board of Christ Church Episcopal School. He is married to Martha Allyson Wood McKissick and they have a son and two daughters, one of who is a Clemson graduate.
