SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Milliken & Company was recognized by R&D Magazine with two R&D 100 awards for 2014, marking the third year in a row that Milliken technologies have been included amongst the 100 most technologically significant products of the year.
The iQ Series™ Comfort Knit with Amplitude G2 fabric, co-developed by Milliken and Bulwark® FR, provides flash fire and arc flash protection while delivering qualities of performance wear. The product relies on an advancement of flame retardant chemistry that enables incorporation of polyester, which enhances both comfort and protection.
The fiber content, knit construction and garment design optimize three comfort attributes: weight, breathability and moisture management. Ultimately, the garment was developed so that workers feel like they are wearing true performance wear and not a stiff, heavy, uncomfortable uniform.
ASSIST Silver is a low-adherent antimicrobial dressing used primarily in burn care for the management of skin grafts. The dressing incorporates three primary features: Active Fluid Management® (AFM®) technology, an ionic silver antimicrobial, and a low-adherent layer. AFM® technology helps maintain an optimal level of moisture at the graft site.
The antimicrobial, SelectSilver®, provides efficacy against a broad spectrum of wound pathogens. The low-adherent layer reduces clinician time and minimizes adhesion to the graft. These features optimize ease of use for the clinician and minimize patient pain, making ASSIST Silver a cost-effective treatment option for skin grafts. ASSIST Silver was also honored with a 2014 Bronze Medical Design Excellence Award.
“We are truly honored to have our products once again appear among the top 100 technologies of the year,” said Chris DeSoiza, vice president of research, Milliken. “Not only do ASSIST Silver and Amplitude G2 fabric represent the breadth and depth of Milliken’s innovation capabilities, they are a true reflection of our company’s desire to create products that matter – in this case through breakthroughs that positively impact health and safety.”
