UXBRIDGE, U.K. – Coats, one of the world’s leading industrial thread manufacturer and a major player in the Americas textile crafts market, said it will close Coats Crafts U.K., its United Kingdom-based crafts business.

All Coats Crafts U.K. customers are being contacted about the closure, with most operations to have ceased by October, the company said. Coats Crafts U.K. will work hard with its customers to help ensure continuity of supply and the transition to alternative distributers.

Customers will be able to source the well known brands and products – such as Rowan, Patons, Milward, Anchor and Red Heart – that they have traditionally obtained from Coats via other suppliers.

“Coats is proud of its U.K. heritage and long association supporting U.K.-based crafters and would like to thank all of our employees and customers, past and present for their loyalty to our products and company,” said Anna Mitchell, managing director, Coats Crafts U.K.

The Coats Americas Crafts business is not affected by the situation in the U.K., the company said. This decision is entirely independent of the results of the EU Referendum and the employee consultation process was started before the vote was held, Coats added.
