RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – AATCC has scheduled a webinar titled, “Understanding High-Visibility Safety Apparel – the ANSI/ISEA 107-2015 HVSA Performance Specification Webinar.”
The event will take place on Thursday, June 29 at 11 .m. (EDT). Adam R. Varley and Patrick A. Ayers will lead the webinar.
ANSI/ISEA 107 compliant high-visibility safety apparel is required by the Federal Highway Administration to be worn by all workers on any public access roadway and is widely used by construction workers, first responders and others.
Understand the technology and design considerations that are incorporated into the ANSI/ISEA 107-2015 product performance specification from fluorescent background material and retro-reflective tapes, to final garment design and labeling.
Varley is technical director and COO of Vartest Laboratories. He has been a member of AATCC since 1978, and has been active in several research committees, especially RA24, Fiber Analysis Test Methods, where he has served as chair and is currently acting chair. He has also served on the International Test Methods Committee and the Executive Committee on Research (ECR). He has published numerous papers in industry publications, including AATCC Review.
Outside of AATCC, he has served on ASTM D13 for Textiles, and is a technical expert to ISO TC38-Textiles. He holds U.S. Patent 7,833,568 relating to the technology of natural protein fiber analysis, and has lectured at Pratt Institute, FIT, and Donghua University.
Varley started his career as a warp knit technologist at Collins and Aikman. In 1985, he became the operations manager and co-founder of Textile Testing Services, the predecessor to Vartest Laboratories. He attended FIT for Textile Technology, has a B.A. in computer science and business management from New York University, and has a master of textiles in textile chemistry and apparel management from N.C. State University.
Ayers is vice president, Operations & Sales at Vartest Laboratories. He has been an active member of AATCC since 1992, participates in ISEA for ANSI 107, ASTM D13 – Textiles and ASTM F23 – Personal Protective Clothing & Equipment.
Ayers started his career as a development engineer in the fiber industry extruding recycled polyester and nylon with Wellman and spandex with Globe Manufacturing. Thereafter, he supported major brands and retailers with their global color programs as a strategic account manager with Datacolor International. More recently, he directed global quality assurance for Maidenform Brands (now part of Hanes Brands) and Ariela & Associates International.
He has a B.S. in textile chemistry, polymer chemistry from N.C. State University and an MBA from Gardner-Webb University.
