Canadian manufacturer Gildan Activewear, Inc. plans to spend an additional $30 million and construct a larger yarn-spinning plant than anticipated in Mocksville, N.C., according to reports.
The company plans to build a 700,000-square-foot plant at a cost of $142 million in the coming weeks, according to the Triad Business Journal of North Carolina. Last year, Gildan said it would spend $112 million to build a 500,000-square-foot plant.
Gildan had planned a 650,000-square-foot plant at the location, according to reports. The company expects to create 290 jobs. Gildan also plans to buy additional spinning machinery, news outlets reported.
The company is building a yarn-spinning plant in Salisbury, N.C., and plans to renovate a plant in Bladen County, N.C.
