RALEIGH, N.C. – N.C. State’s College of Textiles, in conjunction with Shima Seiki, will host a four-day, hands-on technical textiles knit design and programming course in August.
The event will take place at the College of Textiles here August 7-10.
Dr. Andre West will instruct the course, designed to introduce users to the design and programming of flat-knitted, 3D technical textiles, an emergent technology with broad applications, to produce products for niche applications. Each day will focus on a different Shima Seiki knitting machine.
The course will include intensive training of design structures, from the selection of materials to the application technique to prototype development.
Attendees will learn:

The basic principles of 3D design;

WHOLEGARMENT technology;

Step-by-step icon programming;

3D construction techniques;
-
Programming on Shima Seiki’s Apex3 software;

Virtual knitting to reduce prototyping time;

Spacer structures; and

Split gauge knitting.
The early-bird price for the course is $995. After May 31, the price will be $1,295.
