CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance (SCMA) elected Roger Schrum, vice president of investor relations and corporate affairs at Sonoco Products Company, to serve as chairman of the 2015-2016 board of directors.

 

“I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve as chairman of the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance,” Schrum said. “The United States is experiencing a manufacturing renaissance, and South Carolina has an incredible opportunity to strengthen our manufacturing base. It is through sound policy that creates a business environment conducive to meaningful capital investments and new jobs that will have a positive generational impact for all South Carolinians. The SCMA is committed to ensuring that the state’s economic future is one that can be competitive in a global economy, and I look forward to continuing that goal.”

 

Schrum has more than 30 years of business communications management experience for five Fortune 500 energy and manufacturing companies. Sonoco Products Company is a $5 billion revenue global provider of industrial, consumer and protective packaging products and services. He is responsible for Sonoco’s investor relations, marketing communications, sustainability, public relations and public affairs activities. He serves as chair of the company’s Sustainability Council and the Sonoco Foundation, its philanthropic arm.

In addition to being an active member of the SCMA, Schrum serves on the board of directors of the South Carolina Business and Industry Education Committee; the South Carolina AgriBusiness Alliance; the Northeast Strategic Alliance; the Central Carolina Community Foundation; the YMCA of the Upper Pee Dee; and the Coker College Board of Visitors. He previously served on the executive committee of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors and was twice chair of the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce.
