Techtextil, which took place in Frankfurt this month, was a great opportunity for the major world players in textile technologies to gather together to promote their latest innovations.
This year, welder coveralls entirely manufactured in Canada was presented at the trade show. It consists of a fabric made of FireFilTM Welding, a flame-resistant fiberglass core yarn designed by FilSpec™. The fabric is manufactured by Monterey Textiles in Drummondville, and the uniforms are produced by Logistik Unicorp, a uniform supplier in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
The uniform is characterized by its ability to adequately protect the welder while providing maximum comfort. Because of a fatal accident with severe burns, the CNESST strongly recommends wearing non-flammable coveralls when working.
The fabric of the coveralls meets the international standard ISO11611:2015 class 1 for the protection of welders and is in the process of obtaining ISO11611:2015 class 2. This standard means that the fabric is resistant to molten metal shards, short time contacts with flames and also protects from electric arcs and heat.
It also reduces the risk of electric shock due to accidental contact with an electric charge of about 100 volts.
The uniform also meets the ISO11612 specification for protection against heat and flames. Its high collar provides additional protection to the neck and is lined with a very soft fabric to avoid friction against the skin.
In addition, the fabric is lightweight and breathable, allowing the welder to stay dry and cool despite a hot work environment, which is often the case in welding. Finally, the uniform was designed to provide the welder with maximum freedom of movement with a design to ease movements of the shoulders, elbows and knees, so that the worker can kneel and squat without being bothered by his equipment.
In short, this new uniform will allow welders to perform their tasks with a lot more ease without neglecting their protection.
