RALEIGH, N.C. – APJeT, Inc., a leader in atmospheric plasma technology, has outgrown its space at N.C. State University’s College of Textiles here and has signed a lease to expand its research and development capabilities in a new laboratory in nearby Morrisville, N.C.
APJeT, whose patented technology was borne out of research at Los Alamos National Laboratories, moved to Raleigh in 2009. It has had a small lab space on NCSU’s Centennial Campus since then.
The company, which employs seven people, expects to move into its new headquarters, a 9,551-square-foot space, in July, said Martha Miller Emrich, the company’s director of business development. She said the company is entering the commercialization phase of the company's technology.
APJeT, led by former Guilford Mills president & CEO John Emrich, received more than $3 million in equity financing in March 2014.
Morrison Textile Machinery Co., of Fort Lawn, S.C. is solely licensed to build APJeT’s technology, through Morrison Plasma Systems, and is a significant investor in the company. Morrison President John “Jay” White Jr. serves on the APJeT board.
APJeT has developed an atmospheric plasma coating technology for hydrophobic coatings, which provides durable water repellency on almost any fabric without the use of any water or heat. The company will license the technology to material processing manufacturers to enable them to change and enhance the surface properties of a wide variety of materials, including, but not limited to, textiles, paper, glass and plastic.
