JEFFERSON, Ga. – Switzerland-based Hermann Bühler AG has successfully completed the sale of its U.S. subsidiary, Buhler Quality Yarns Corp., to South Korean Samil Spinning Co., Ltd., effective March 20.

 

The transaction is structured as a 100 percent all-cash share-deal, with a final closing expected by the end of April. Both companies have agreed not to disclose further details of the transaction.

 

As a key player in the North American yarn market, and with a well-established international distribution network, Buhler Quality Yarns will provide Samil Spinning a Western Hemisphere manufacturing base via Buhler's spinning facility here.

 

This strategic addition broadens Samil Spinning's global footprint, further establishing its business in the U.S. market and increasing their client portfolio. Samil will build on Buhler's full product portfolio through targeted investments in Georgia facility.

 

In addition manufacturing fine-count, high-quality yarns, Buhler provides technical support and more than 20 years of supply chain partnerships. Its U.S-based facility means quick delivery and responsiveness to market trends, and its yarns are certified Oeko-Tex Standard 100, including Supima, MicroModal® Edelweiss, Micro TENCEL® and various blends.

 

Buhler customers include internationally recognized brands across fashion and functional apparel, home textiles and industrial fabrics. Buhler maintains approximately 32,000 spindles, with a spinning capacity of 9 million pounds per year. The majority of its production is for customers in the United States, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Canada.

 

The company employs about 155 employees in Jefferson, Ga,, and generated sales of approximately USD $27mm FY in 2015/16.

 

Established in 1983, Samil Spinning Co., Ltd. is a leading South Korean yarn spinner that provides quality yarns to major global garment companies. The company develops and produces high-value added yarns and fabrics to meet fashion trends. The company also spins yarn for industrial safety apparel, military uniforms and fireproof garments.

 

Samil Spinning Co., Ltd. works with superior fibers, including Lenzing Micro Modal®, Micro TENCEL®, cotton, wool, silk and linen. In 2016, Samil recorded sales of approximately USD $82 million with a workforce of approximately 250 employees. It has four production facilities throughout South Korea and maintains 110,000 spindles with an annual spinning capacity of roughly 50,000,000 pounds.
