Tyndall currently chairs the AATCC Chemical Applications Interest Group. He also serves on the Board of Directors for AATCC and AATCC Foundation, Inc. Tyndall continues to serve on education steering committees and participates in association conferences, and symposia as a moderator and speaker. He represents the association internationally and often speaks on behalf of the association at industry events.
Tyndall received a BS in textile chemistry and a MS in textiles from North Carolina State University. He joined Cotton Incorporated in 1974 as a laboratory technician, and worked in Technical Services until he became Senior Director-Technical Services in 1996. From 1999 through 2006, Tyndall traveled extensively as Cotton Incorporated’s senior director for Global Marketing. After a one-year assignment as senior director for Product Initiatives, Tyndall moved to his current job as vice president of Product Development and Implementation at Cotton Incorporated.
The Chapin Award
The Chapin Award was established in 1958 in honor of Harold C. Chapin, professor of chemistry at Lowell Textile School, who served as national secretary of AATCC for nearly 25 years. The association will present the Chapin Scroll during the International Conference Awards Luncheon on April 21, which will take place at the Williamsburg Lodge, Williamsburg, Va.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – In recognition of his outstanding service to the association, the American Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) has named R. Michael (Mike) Tyndall as the 2015 recipient of the Harold C. Chapin Award.
Throughout his years with the asssociation, Tyndall has represented AATCC locally, nationally and internationally, and has furthered the association’s mission, service and outreach in textile education, research and communication.
Tyndall has been an active member of both AATCC technical and administrative committees since the 1990s. He has also chaired a number of committees, including the Technical Committee on Research (TCR) and the Executive Committee of Research (ECR).
Tyndall was active locally as a member of the Northern Piedmont Section, and served on the AATCC Council as a section councilor for the Northern Piedmont Section from 1996 through 1997, prior to its merging with the Piedmont Section.
Internationally, Tyndall served as president-elect from 2009-2010, and AATCC president from 2011 through 2012. During his tenure, Tyndall was an active participant in the development and implementation of the AATCC Five-Year Strategic Plan.
