RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Cody Reynolds is the recipient of this year’s AATCC Young Entrepreneur Award.
Reynolds, CEO and co-founder of Additive Drug-Delivering Devices Inc. (AD3), was recognized for developing patents that allow drugs to be added to uniquely formed bi-component fibers that elute the drugs in an even, time-controlled manner to fight surgical-site infections (SSIs).
In 2011, Reynolds graduated from Clemson University with a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering, specializing in drug delivery systems. Reynolds received a bachelor of science in chemistry, specializing in quantitative analysis instrumentation, from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash.
Reynolds performed his Ph.D. and postdoctoral work in the department of Materials Science and Engineering at Clemson, where he researched polymer fiber-based medical devices to prevent premature deliveries by incorporating drug elution into cervical cerclages. A utility patent was filed in 2009 for the associated research and is pending.
Activities included single and bi-component polymer fiber spinning and characterization, drug infusion, in vitro drug elution, method development and validation and electron microscopic analysis. It was during this time that he co-founded Additive Drug Delivering Devices Inc. (AD3).
Reynolds currently works as technology transfer manager at the Office of Innovations of the Health Sciences Center, a not-for-profit LLC in support of the Greenville Health System.
Reynolds will speak about his research during the AATCC International Conference this month. His talk is entitled: “Antimicrobial Sutures: Challenging Clinical and Investment Paradigms.”
The Young Entrepreneur Award
