RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) is encouraging the fast-growing electronic segment of the textile industry by sponsoring and participating in upcoming workshops and partnering with the WEAR Conference, the longest-running conference series dedicated to smart textiles, wearable technology, material innovation and the business of consumer experience.

 

Standards for Wearable Technology and Electronic Textiles Workshop

March 8-9

The two-day workshop includes talks and panel sessions involving representatives from standards organizations (including AATCC), government and industry that will help identify challenges related to standards for wearable devices. Industry and academics are invited to learn more about the standards communities and what resources are available to assist in product development and evaluation. Day 2 of the workshop will have a specific emphasis on textile electronics standards development.

The exploratory committee on Wearables will meet to finalize scope and priority action items. The group has proposed the following title and scope.

• Wearables – Electronically Integrated Textiles

• Scope: To develop methods and terminology for testing electronically integrated textiles.

 

Priority projects include exploration of laundering for electronically-integrated textiles. Other related committees will also meet this week, including those focused on printing, static, laundering, and water resistance.

 

WEAR Conference 2016

This year, AATCC will be a media partner in the WEAR Conference. Representatives will share information and be available for discussion at the AATCC table onsite. AATCC members are eligible for a registration discount for the conference.

This workshop is sponsored by AATCC and ASTM Committee D13 on Textiles in conjunction with the June standards development meetings of ASTM D13. A call for speakers is now open. The objective of this workshop is to educate those in the area of smart textiles by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and to identify new opportunities for standards in this emerging industry segment.
