ASHEBORO, N.C. – AEC Narrow Fabrics, previously known as Asheboro Elastics Corp., plans to close one of its plants here that supplies webbing for the military, according to reports.
The plant employs 90 people, according to a filing with the State of North Carolina. Some of those employees will be moved to the company’s other plant here, Jeff Crisco, company vice president, told The Asheboro Courier-Tribune.
The plant’s military materials were not as profitable as the company had hoped, he told the newspaper.
The company also manufactures knitted, woven, elastic and rigid narrow fabrics for apparel, automotive, bedding, fall protection, first responders, industrial, commercial, medical, military and recreational industries.
AEC also operates a plant in Virginia and two in Central America.
The family-owned company was co-founded in 1986 by Keith Crisco, the former N.C. Secretary of Commerce, who died in 2014.
