RICHMOND, Va. – Synalloy Chemicals has developed patented technology to produce flame-barrier fabrics effective enough for mattress and home furnishings requirements, according to Tony Jones, the company’s executive vice president of sales and marketing.
“Because applying this protective treatment system transforms ordinary textiles and nonwovens into value-added specialties, it is an important feature that fits many product types,” he said.
According to Warren Stidham, business development executive with Synalloy Chemicals, “Barrier Solutions is a marriage of advanced fire-retardant chemistry to protective coatings. Depending on requirements, we select appropriate FlameQuest fire retardants that are incorporated into an appropriate coating. FlameQuest chemistry is unique and readily adaptable, and there are a number of different coating options. To shorten a long story, Synalloy does the heavy lifting, then delivers a single component, patented product to the customer. The customer has to only apply the coating and enjoy the benefits.”
Barrier Solutions will be positioned in the Synalloy FlameQuest product line using the same marketing strategy as Synalloy Chemical Intermediates, which are sold primarily to chemical manufacturers and distributors, according to Mike Junkins, global product manager.
“The Barrier Solutions development process can be more intense than some other products, so we will integrate our FlameQuest Team into the process with our customers to ensure results,” he said.
In a recent interview, a company spokesman noted that two commission processers are partnering to provide application services for Barrier Solutions on nonwoven materials for automotive. Synalloy has agreed to this concept since it could provide additional outlet to a broader customer base.
