WICHITA, Kan. – In conjunction with the semi-annual Winter Outdoor Retailer show this week in Salt Lake City, Utah, INVISTA issued four releases about new technologies and partnerships related to its CORDURA® brand, celebrating its 50th anniversary.

CORDURA®, Cone Denim offer modern twist on classic selvage denim

INVISTA's CORDURA® brand and Cone Denim, a global leader in denim authenticity and innovation, are collaborating on a first of its kind, vintage-inspired selvage denim for the 50th anniversary of the CORDURA® brand.

The new CORDURA® Selvage Denim is produced in Cone Denim's legendary White Oak facility, drawing inspiration from its more than 110-year history in textile production, combined with 50 durable years of CORDURA® brand heritage.

White Oak is the oldest operating denim mill in the United States, and the only mill producing narrow selvage denim on fly shuttle looms that date back to the 1940s. The collaboration celebrates the CORDURA® brand 50th anniversary theme of "heritage meets innovation," as it reimagines the past to reinvent the future.

"As we celebrate a 50-year milestone, we’re also constantly looking forward to what the future will bring in terms of durable innovation," said Cindy McNaull, global CORDURA® brand and marketing director. "Both the CORDURA® brand and Cone Denim have a rich history involving textile production and denim fabrics, and combining our extensive experience to create the first-ever selvage denim incorporating CORDURA® Denim technology is a great way to honor our mutual heritage and usher in new performance denims of the future."

Produced on American Draper X3 Shuttle looms, this signature made-in-the-USA fabric is created through a collaborative development process between Cone Denim's “Cone® 3D” (Denim, Design and Development) R&D team and the CORDURA® brand. By focusing these key elements within a scientific, yet creative environment, Cone Denim and the CORDURA® brand were able to take joint product innovation to the next level with both this initial signature launch and future developments in the pipeline.

"Innovation is in our DNA, but heritage is also a key inspiration in our fabrics – so working with a brand like CORDURA® that shares the same values is a great fit for us," said Kara Nicholas, vice president of product design + marketing at Cone Denim. "Incorporating high-performance CORDURA® fiber in such an iconic classic design was key in bringing a new generation of selvage denim to life."

Debuting this week at the Winter Outdoor Retailer Show, CORDURA® Selvage Denim is the first of many projects to come from this legacy-in-the-making collaboration with Cone's global network of mills in the U.S., China and Mexico.

CORDURA® announces durable fiber breakthrough

In its 50th anniversary year, INVISTA's CORDURA® brand has made a cutting-edge breakthrough in designing and commercializing the strongest nylon-6,6 staple fiber ever produced by INVISTA.

This intensive two-year-long research and design process resulted in a state-of-the-art, patent-pending high tenacity fiber designed to enhance the core strength of CORDURA® fabrics. With the introduction of the new high-tenacity INVISTA T420HT fiber technology, INVISTA's scientists and technicians have successfully achieved one of the largest leaps in its nylon 6,6 innovation pipeline, which dates back to the initial commercialization of the fiber at the company's flagship Seaford, Del., staple nylon 6,6 production facility.

"At INVISTA, an ongoing dedication to innovation is in our DNA," said Anthony Green, global CORDURA® brand business director. "Our latest T420HT technology launch is one in a series of new qualifying CORDURA® brand fiber breakthroughs to come as we continue to push the boundaries of durable possibilities."

Already adopted by a major international military, CORDURA® NYCO (Nylon/Cotton) fabric blends based on new INVISTA T420HT high-tenacity fiber are undergoing extensive wear trialing for next generation combat uniforms. The stealth-like INVISTA T420HT fiber has a mission to create a new generation of durable, yet lightweight fabrics – such as CORDURA® NYCO Extreme and CORDURA® NYCO Tactical fabrics – to be used in many applications such as  military uniforms, outdoor apparel and workwear. Dickies is the first consumer brand to adopt the new fiber in its Dickies PRO™ with CORDURA® fiber technology workwear collection, which will be available online Fall 2017.

Dickies®, CORDURA® collaborate on military-grade fiber collection

Dickies®, the world's leading performance workwear brand, and INVISTA's CORDURA® brand, a leader in durable, long-lasting fabrics, have teamed up to create the Dickies ProTM with CORDURA® military-grade fiber technology collection. Crafted specifically for the skilled tradesman working in severe weather conditions, Dickies ProTM with CORDURA® fabric is lightweight, durable and six times more abrasion resistant (based on 2016 Dickies testing with a comparable 8 oz. 59 percent cotton/39 percent polyester/2 percent spandex blend.

Dickies ProTM with CORDURA® fabric collection includes the following garments:

  • The Field Coat is built with multiple pockets, including tech-friendly components and square quilted ThinsulateTM DWR (durable water repellent) insulation for lightweight warmth to cut through the most bitter wind and rain.

  • The Bomber Jacket features military-inspired interior camouflage print, a removable insulated hood, a headphone stabilizer bungee, adjustable tab cuffs, and reflective accents to dial up visibility.

  • The Ripstop Pant is designed to withstand gale-force winds with reinforced stress points for added durability, FLEX fabric (2 percent spandex) for exceptional mobility, cargo pockets designed for specific tools and double knees to accommodate kneepads.

The collection is built with the latest in fabric and apparel technology to help it stand up to the most challenging weather conditions. The CORDURA® military-grade component is INVISTA's patent-panding T420HT fiber and cotton-rich ripstop fabric that combine to form the latest-generation CORDURA® NYCO (nylon/cotton) fabric technology.

CORDURA® NYCO fabric provides innovative performance, lightweight comfort and exceptional abrasion resistance. With the further addition of FLEX (2 percent spandex), the collection notably features a special tri-blend construction. As two proven brands in the workwear arena, Dickies® and the CORDURA® brand have a combined 145 years of innovation, and are synonymous with durability, functionality and performance.

"We know that our extreme weather workers can face some of the harshest challenges on the jobsite, from severe cold to high winds, to rain – oftentimes all three at high elevations," said Brian Sheedy, SVP, Merchandising & Design, Williamson-Dickie Mfg. Co. "We designed this collection with CORDURA® fiber technology in order to redefine the ultimate extreme-weather workwear to meet the reality of our workers' environmental demands."

"The heritage of the CORDURA® brand dates back half a century when we first began developing fibers and fabrics for the military," said Cindy McNaull, global brand and marketing director for CORDURA® brand. "These battle-proven technologies have since evolved to bring military-grade durability, abrasion resistance and strength to other rough and rugged industries like workwear. We are excited to collaborate with Dickies® as it debuts the first workwear collection with our latest generation nylon 6,6 CORDURA® T420HT fiber technology."

CORDURA®, Woolrich® team up to bring back popular '90s Wool-DuraTM collection for 21st century outerwear

In the early 1990s, INVISTA's CORDURA® brand and Woolrich, America's Original Outdoor Clothing Company®, collaborated to create Wool-DuraTM, a specialty blend of iconic Woolrich wool and nylon 6,6 CORDURA® fabric used in hunting apparel.

Now, the two are back together for the 50th anniversary of the CORDURA® brand with a newly reimagined Wool-DuraTM collection, taking inspiration from its hunting-centric predecessor while adding a modern, cross-functional twist. The collection is featured in the latest installment of the CORDURA® brand "Meet the Maker" video series, an ongoing mini-documentary that highlights key brand partners and collaborators.

"The opportunity to work with Woolrich again on a new collection inspired by the classics aligned perfectly with our 50th anniversary focus of heritage meets innovation," said Cindy McNaull, global CORDURA® brand and marketing director. "We are extremely humbled to work with such a loyal brand customer who has been a leader in the outdoor marketplace for more than 180 years. Our latest “Meet the Maker” video spotlights this special collaborative history, and we and look forward to continuing to work together to design outdoor clothing that reflects on our past, while propelling us forward into the future of the industry."

Wool-DuraTM is an authentic fabric that combines the durability of CORDURA® fiber and the natural properties of Woolrich wool, produced in the historic Woolrich Woolen Mill, to create strong, enduring garments for the authentic outdoor lifestyle. The latest line of products featuring Wool-DuraTM fabric are inspired by its hunting heritage, but are designed to function in both outdoor and urban environments. In addition to signature Wool-Dura® fabrics, the collection also includes a coat, cap and blanket – all designed with a modern fit, style and attitude in mind.

"We've been fans of the CORDURA® brand at Woolrich for years. When we start bringing CORDURA® fiber into the mix, we create a product that has all of the properties of wool but becomes more durable and long-lasting," said Karuna Scheinfeld, vice president of design at Woolrich. "The latest Wool-DuraTM collection speaks to the values that both the CORDURA® brand and Woolrich hold, and collaborating has brought about a collection of extremely durable, beautiful products that people can wear for generations to come."
