COLUMBIA, S.C. – AGY Holding Corp. (AGY), a leading global producer of glass fiber yarns and high-strength glass fiber reinforcement materials, is expanding its existing operations in Aiken County, the S.C. Dept. of Commerce announced.

The planned investment is expected to create as many as 80 new jobs during the next five years.

"We couldn't be more excited to celebrate AGY Holding Corp.'s decision to expand and create 80 new jobs in South Carolina,” said S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley. “Each time we see one of our companies succeed and expand here, it proves that Team South Carolina's hard work is paying off, and we look forward to seeing this fantastic partnership continue to pay off for the people of our state for many years to come."

The investment in AGY's Aiken County facility, which serves as the company's global headquarters, will principally include the expansion and upgrading of machinery and equipment. This will allow AGY to meet the growing demand and exceed global quality standards for specialty glass fibers – specifically for the company's S-2 Glass® and L-Glass™ specialty glass fiber product lines.

AGY's S-2 Glass® fibers are known to offer superior performance in strength, stiffness and thermal properties and are available as yarns, single-end rovings, multi-end rovings and chopped strands. The L-Glass™ yarns are ideally suited for printed circuit board designs requiring increased signal speeds and high signal integrity.

With the expansion, which is expected to be executed throughout the next five years, hiring for the new positions will take place as the incremental capacity is placed into service.
